Constitution

of the Contemporary Aristotelian Studies Specialist Group

of the Political Studies Association of the United Kingdom

 

1 Name
The Group shall be formally called the Contemporary Aristotelian Studies Specialist Group of the Political Studies Association of the United Kingdom.

2 Purpose
The aims of the Group are:
a) to promote research into political actions, institutions and issues from an Aristotelian perspective;
b) to facilitate debate about Aristotelian political and ethical principles, and about other Aristotelian principles insofar as they might pertain to the study of politics;
c) to organize events and support postgraduate, publishing and other activities consistent with 2a and 2b.

3 Membership
Membership shall be open to all members of the PSA and to any other interested party who will assist the Group in pursuit of its aims. All members shall be listed on the Group’s website.

4 Officers
The officers of the Group shall be a Chair, a Secretary, a Treasurer, and a Webmaster. The officers shall be commonly responsible for the government of the Group. All officers shall be members of the PSA. Officers shall vacate their offices upon resignation or by resolution of an annual general meeting or extraordinary general meeting.

5 Annual General Meeting
Annual general meetings shall be held either during the PSA annual conference or at a special Group conference convened at the decision of the officers. Not less than fourteen days’ notice shall be given of such a meeting to all members by email.

6 Extraordinary General Meeting
An extraordinary general meeting must be convened by the officers if called for by two thirds of the membership.

7 Finance
The annual general meeting shall ordinarily decide how funds are to be used over the following year. Extraordinary expenditure may be made by the Treasurer with the agreement of the other officers. A report shall be presented by the Treasurer to each annual general meeting.

8 Annual Report
An Annual Report, agreed by the officers, will detail past and projected activities. This Report will be submitted to all Group members and to the PSA Executive Committee.

9 PSA Articles of Association
The Group shall be governed by the appropriate clauses of the PSA’s Articles of Association with regard to any matter not covered by this Constitution.

10 Amendment of the Constitution
This Constitution may be amended or altered by agreement of the officers, or by a resolution supported by two-thirds of the members present and voting at a general meeting, provided that no alteration shall contravene any part of the PSA’s Articles of Association.
